Lesson 6.6 — Seven-Day RTO Practice Plan

DayFocusWhat to do
Day 1Cue spottingDo 5 mini-scenarios. Your only task is to identify and explore the cue.
Day 2Natural empathyBan your favourite empathy phrase. Respond specifically to what the patient says.
Day 3ICE organicallyPractise discovering ideas, concerns and expectations without asking the three stock questions.
Day 4Sharing informationPractise chunk-check-response explanations for three common GP topics.
Day 5DisagreementRole-play refusal, demands and frustration. Understand first; negotiate second.
Day 6Full casesDo three 12-minute cases and score yourself using the Examiner-Lens Calibration table.
Day 7Light reviewUse the Final 24-Hour Toolkit. Practise openings, one difficult moment and one closing — then stop.

Closing Thought

What has this patient told me that should change the way I communicate, explain or plan?

If the answer is “nothing”, you may be performing a generic consultation. If the answer is specific — their fear, work, family, beliefs, previous experience, priorities or practical barriers — you are much closer to genuine Relating to Others.
