Module 7: Teamwork, Leadership & Communication

This comprehensive practice session contains the most commonly asked teamwork, leadership, communication, conflict, and resilience questions in JCF interviews, with model answer structures and scoring annotations.

The 15 Core Behavioural Questions

  1. Tell us about a time you worked effectively as part of a team. (STAR — MDT collaboration)
  2. Describe a situation where teamwork led to a positive patient outcome. (STAR — specific clinical example)
  3. Tell us about a time you showed leadership. (STAR — initiative, not authority)
  4. Describe a time you had to lead a team under pressure. (STAR — prioritisation, delegation, communication)
  5. Give an example of when you had to manage a disagreement with a colleague. (STAR + conflict resolution principles)
  6. Tell us about a difficult conversation you have had with a patient or relative. (STAR + communication skills)
  7. Describe a time you received negative feedback. How did you respond? (STAR + reflective practice)
  8. Tell us about a time you had to prioritise multiple urgent tasks. (STAR + clinical prioritisation)
  9. Give an example of when you went above and beyond for a patient. (STAR + patient-centred care)
  10. Describe a situation where you had to adapt to a sudden change. (STAR + flexibility)
  11. Tell us about a time you supported a struggling colleague. (STAR + Leading with Care)
  12. How do you handle working under pressure? (Strategy + wellbeing + support awareness)
  13. What would your colleagues say about you? (Third-person perspective + evidence from feedback)
  14. How do you maintain your professional development? (CPD, courses, reflective practice, portfolio)
  15. Describe a time you improved a process or system. (STAR + QI/leadership)

Each model answer demonstrates: a specific, recent example from clinical practice (not a vague or hypothetical answer), clear use of the STAR framework, evidence of the competency being assessed, reflection on what was learned, and alignment with NHS values and GMC Good Medical Practice principles. The scoring annotations show exactly which elements earn marks and where candidates typically lose marks (most commonly: using “we” instead of “I” in the Action section, giving answers that are too short or lack specificity, and failing to include a reflective Result section).
