SCArevision vs MedTutor vs SimsBuddy: An Honest Comparison for SCA exam preparation
We asked 62 candidates who've used SCArevision, MedTutor, and SimsBuddy what actually works and what doesn't.
Picking a platform for SCA revision is a real decision. Most candidates stick with whatever they choose for months, and none of these subscriptions are free. This article comes from SimsBuddy, so it's worth saying upfront that SimsBuddy isn't a neutral party in this comparison. But 62 candidates who've used one or more of these three platforms were interviewed for this piece, and their answers are reported here as given, including the parts that don't flatter SimsBuddy.
SCArevision
SCArevision has been around the longest. It was doing SCA prep before MedTutor or SimsBuddy existed, and it shows. The case library is enormous, over 350 cases, more than either of the other two offer. It also has by far the biggest user base of the three, built up over years as the default choice.
Pro: The largest case library of the three platforms, over 350 cases. The biggest subscriber base and longest track record. A monthly subscription running around £12, one of the more affordable options.
Cons: The volume of learning points per case can feel overwhelming for a quick, focused revision pass. Several candidates found the layout dated and not always easy to navigate. AI patient simulation launched after both MedTutor and SimsBuddy, and most candidates described it as still a bit rough. Its AI add on is priced in the middle of the three, more than SimsBuddy's, less than MedTutor's.
MedTutor
MedTutor's whole pitch is the human element. Every candidate gets an assigned instructor, there's a genuinely active WhatsApp community, and instructors listen back to AI practice recordings and give their own feedback on top of what the AI already gave.
Pro: A dedicated instructor for every candidate. A large, active WhatsApp community. Human feedback layered on top of AI feedback, based on listening to actual practice recordings.
Cons: The most expensive of the three, at £50 a month or £195 upfront for the AI plus instructor bundle. Candidates were fairly consistent that instructor feedback is somewhat better than the AI's alone, but not enough to justify £195 in one go for most people. Every session is recorded by default, including during the free trial, and this isn't made especially obvious at sign up. A few candidates also said the AI tends to overshare, giving more information than needed when trying to revise quickly.
SimsBuddy
SimsBuddy sits between the two other platforms. It focuses on tighter, more current learning points instead of an information dump, a site layout candidates described as simple to use, and the most affordable plans of the three. Its AI patients have also been trained the longest and are the most developed of the bunch, even though SimsBuddy as a brand is the newest.
Pro: The most affordable plans of the three. The most trained and mature AI patients. A site candidates found easy to navigate. Learning points kept current and to the point rather than exhaustive.
Cons: SCA specific content is newer, so the case library isn't as deep as SCArevision's yet. Individualized feedback on recordings, MedTutor's strong point, was only recently introduced, through vetted instructors booked individually rather than a bundle. Its WhatsApp community is small right now compared to MedTutor's.
SimsBuddy's plans are structured around a subscription length plus a bundle of AI credits, so candidates know exactly how much practice they're getting:

All plans include the same access to the full case library, so the difference between them comes down to subscription length and AI practice volume. Credits can also be topped up on the same plan if a candidate runs through their allowance before it expires.

So which one should you choose
It depends on what matters most to each candidate, but for most of those interviewed, SimsBuddy came out as the practical choice. It offers AI patients that are more mature than either competitor's, plans that don't require a large upfront cost, and a site that doesn't take long to figure out.
That said, there are real reasons to pick the others. Candidates who want the deepest possible case library and don't mind digging through a lot of material or a clunkier interface may prefer SCArevision's 350+ cases. Candidates who want an actual instructor and a large community around them, and don't mind sessions being recorded, may find MedTutor delivers more on that front.
SimsBuddy is still building out its case library and its community, and that gap is real. But candidate by candidate, what came through most in these conversations was that SimsBuddy hit the balance most people were actually looking for: current content, a platform that's easy to use, and AI practice that's had the longest time to develop.
